N01 / MHS _ Model Turntables
MORE OR LESS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE
Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc)
Spring 2019
Instructed by Devyn Weiser
In collaboration with Samuel Flower and William Maya
Two projects were designed in parallel with reference to unbuilt proposals by Mies Van der Rohe and James Stirling. Both projects are situated in London’s Mansion House Square.
The Mies (MHS) project is about combining views. That way of working led into a narrative of talking architecture that aims to connect the context buildings through inside to outside views.
The Stirling (N01) project is about combining parts, in opposition of the Mies proposal, it was designed from outside to inside views. That strategy focused on the specificity of urban viewpoints that are limited to one familiar reading, which gets distorted if the perspective is displaced.
